Anna Arizzi
Dr Anna Arizzi is associate professor at the Department of Mineralogy and Petrology of the University of Granada (UGR) and she belongs to RNM179 group of the Junta de Andalucía.
She has a degree in Chemistry (University of Messina, Italy, 2007), a Master degree in Geology (UGR, Spain, 2008) and a PhD degree in Earth Sciences (UGR, Spain, 2012)
Knowing lime for more than 15 years.
Dr Arizzi has also 16 years of teaching experience in Geology, Chemistry and Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage degrees, as well as in the Master Degree “Science and Technology in Architectural Heritage” (of whom she is coordinator since 2022), all of them of the University of Granada, teaching subjects mainly related to building materials. In the last 10 years she has supervised 5 undergraduate dissertation theses, 7 M.Sc. theses and 3 PhD students’ internships and she is currently supervising 2 PhD theses.
During her PhD and Post-doc research activities, Dr Arizzi has also participated to the implementation of 3 research projects, granted by the Spanish Ministry and the Junta de Andalucía (Spain), one of them focused on the design of bricks with industrial sub-products, and two on the study of stone finishes and durability to assess their quality as ornamental rocks. During the implementation of her PhD and post-doc research projects, Dr Arizzi has collaborated with researchers from different fields and has made highly effective use of a number of research placements in different parts of Europe (Germany, Italy, Belgium, France, United Kingdom).
Dr Arizzi’s main research focuses on the design and characterisation of new building materials for sustainable construction and repair interventions, especially mortars and bricks. Dr Arizzi has published more than 40 scientific papers, 33 of them published in SCI journals, mainly in the area of “Construction and Building Technology”. Moreover, Dr Arizzi has published more than 40 conference proceedings (30 of them in international conferences).
Year 2007
Dr Arizzi started into research during her Master Degree, thanks to a “Fundación Empresa-Universidad de Granada” grant to study lime mortars with industrial additives, in collaboration with Argos d.c. company (Granada).Year 2008
She was awarded with a PhD fellowship funded by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science (FPU grant) (2008-2012, University of Granada), to carry out a PhD thesis focused on the design of ready-to-use rendering mortars for use in restoration work.Year 2013
Dr Arizzi was awarded with a Marie Curie IEF-FP7 post-Doc grant (European Research Program, 2013-2015) to carry out her post-doctorate research activity at the University of Oxford (United Kingdom)Year 2017
She obtained a “Juan de la Cierva Incorporación” grant funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (2017-2019), to carry out a new research line on sustainable building materials at the Department of Mineralogy and Petrology of the University of Granada.Since 2021
Dr Arizzi is the main researcher of a Spanish National Project titled “Manufacture and suitability of natural hydraulic limes as a binder in a sustainable construction and restoration (Id-Cal)”, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (139150€).Since 2015
He co-founding of TESELA, Materials, Innovation and Heritage, an innovative technology-based company (TBC), initially raised as Spin-Off of the University of Granada that since 2015 offers consulting, control, innovation and training services in the field of architectural heritage and building materials, also demonstrates her involvement also in knowledge transfer within the construction sector.
